What’s not to love about good food and pretty decor? Instagrammable – isn’t that what they call it? Of course, I’d rather go to a restaurant for the food over how charming it looks, but there’s something luxurious about sitting in a beautifully decorated eatery and devouring a tasty meal. Simply put, it’s an experience.
I enjoyed an experience such as this for a friend’s birthday brunch this past weekend at Aubaine.
One of the locations situated in Notting Hill was easy to find on the main road. Its basic exterior is just a guise for its sophisticated and vintage interior. You would also never guess how large it is from the outside.
You’re greeted with this comfy setting at the entrance, and the main seating arrangements are rustic, with a stunning stained glass roof window.
There are two more rooms at the back of the restaurant – one that holds larger parties, and a bar with cosy chairs and a fireplace. This is where my friends and I took pictures with the birthday girl.
Now on to the main event – the food! I ordered the Chicken Paillard: butterfly chicken breast, baby kale and green bean salad, toasted hazelnuts, black truffle and hazelnut dressing, with chips on the side.
I was so pleased with my meal because (1) I was satisfied after I had eaten and (2) it was the closest thing to a salad I’ve ever ordered 😅. Truth be told, I actually love green veg – kale and green beans being one of my favourites among brussel sprouts and broccoli.
The hazelnuts were a unique addition. I loved that crunchy kick it gave. Remind me to add hazelnuts when I’m making salads at home 😉. The chicken wasn’t dry and I could have gotten away with only ordering the paillard. That’s how filling the meal was. If you eat light, don’t choose the chips. It actually wasn’t necessary, but my eyes were too big that day.
Our server was great! He went over and above to make us happy, and was the one to show us to the beautiful back room when he saw me trying to take pictures of the birthday girl at our table. Excellent service always makes your experience in a restaurant that much better.
I would gladly go back to Aubaine. Maybe I’ll take the hubby this time and we’ll visit one of its other locations 😌.
Have you ever been to Aubaine?
