This isn’t exactly what the quote that I picked from my Happy Jar said. It actually said, “Choose to see the good side of things today.” But I don’t think that’s enough. This is something that needs to be done every day.
Seeing the good side in every single situation is a skill. Some need to train their mind to do it, because their first instinct is pessimistic – something that is natural to us. However others have mastered this art and it’s now ingrained in them. When something goes wrong, they no longer blame, worry, curse and complain on impulse. Instead they say, “This went wrong for a reason.” And they go on with their day instead of letting that one hiccup ruin it.
I’d like to share something that was mentioned in church yesterday. We were encouraged to trust that if something goes wrong, it’s for a reason. God knows. Sharing the example that was used, He knows that you got that flat tire because if you had left any earlier, you could have been involved in a car accident. It may seem dramatic, but we cannot deny that there are people who have been in situations like this. We don’t know what could happen five minutes into the future, which is why it is important to place our trust in the hands of the One who does.
But going back to the point of this post, I am choosing to look on the bright side of life. I know that doing this will enable my mind to be the brighter and happier place it needs to be for the sake of my mental health. And it will also help me to abolish the bad habit I discussed in a previous post – complaining!
Have a great Monday!
