In the beautiful land of Buckinghamshire is a magnificent estate where dreams are made of. Peaceful, isolated, restful dreams that can be found in De Vere Latimer Estate – a mansion house surrounded by countryside and greenery. It is heavenly.
The hubby and I booked a sweet escape for his birthday through the online travel platform of the very same name. Our deal included two nights with full english breakfast buffet and a £26 dinner allowance per head.
The journey was only a convenient hour’s drive from home. Thank God the weather was perfect in July, if not a little too hot (had one difficult sleepless night due to the 31-degree heatwave), but there’s no better way to enjoy the countryside than in the sunshine.
The first thing we did was obviously check into our superior double room in the north wing of the estate, which was cute and cosy. It had balcony doors that opened out to let in fresh air and sunlight.
I love anything historical so exploring the grounds was definitely in order. There was a secret (or not so secret) pathway that was secluded and had two cut-out doors of greenery that reminded me of The Secret Garden. It was very quiet.
I adored everything about the estate from the grand staircase to the carpeted halls, the hidden seating areas and homely lounges to the fanciful toilets. My hubby and I took every opportunity to walk around or sit in the quiet seating area under the stairs and read.
One of my favourite areas in the estate was the 1838 Restaurant because it didn’t feel like you were in a hotel. It met the same standards as the rest of the grounds, with fine dining, waiters and waitresses that took your order and plush seating.
Every meal I had was delicious! I couldn’t praise the food enough. I even managed to snag myself a vegan dessert. I was over the moon! 💃🏾 And don’t get me started on the english breakfast. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and I am very critical of it. Nowhere does it better than in the UK. I looked forward to it for the two mornings more than dinner.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at De Vere Latimer Estate. The hotel also has a swimming pool and gym (I only got my workout in on the first night 😅). How people treat you is something you remember no matter where you go and I was so happy with how hospitable and friendly the staff were. It just made our stay so much more enjoyable, because you have to agree that no matter how gorgeous the location, if people treat you badly or make you feel uncomfortable, you tend to remember that more than anything else.
De Vere hotels is a chain with various mansion hotels dotted throughout the country. From the website, each one is every bit as inviting as the next and I’ve made a mental note to visit each one. I’m sure the hubby will happily oblige. 😉
